New net names now available

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved a selection of new net names, with 1300+ generic top level domains (gTLDs) potentially coming online in the next few years.

New domain name suffixes coming online include: .guru, .ventures, .camera, .clothing, .singles, .voyage, .equipment, .bike, .tattoo, .technology, .sexy, .graphics, .diamonds.

Initially the new suffixes will only be available for registration by those with registered trademarks, and the requisite evaluation fee of $185,000, however they will be open to the general public at the end of January 2014.

ICANN received 1,930 requests for its first round of new internet suffixes. Plus businesses have come forward to request suffixes that would reflect their brand or business e.g. .ferrari or .porn.
